Mitchelton Hotel - Friday Night (90 minutes from Melbourne)
Your weekend escape starts on Friday with an overnight stay at the magnificent Mitchelton Winery. Located on the banks of the Goulburn River, the Mitchelton Hotel was designed by architecture and interior firm Hecker Gutherie. Each of the 58 rooms features a private balcony overlooking the River or Mitchelton Vineyard. Boasting earthy notes throughout you can relax in the spa, enjoy the sun on the landscaped terrace or swim in the cool waters of the 20 m infinity pool. Enjoy a meal at the Muse Restaurants, which features a menu of local Goulburn Valley produce and the Mitchelton Wine Portfolio.
For the sweet tooth, you can also visit the onsite Ministry of Chocolate factory which produces high-quality chocolates and cakes using only the finest couverture chocolate from Belgium and France with fresh local ingredients. From delectable pralines and the chocolate-coated honeycomb to hot chocolate shavings, freckles, frogs and more, sampling this superb selection is a must for any visit to Mitchelton.
You can also visit the Mitchelton Gallery of Aboriginal Art was established by Adam Knight and Gerry Ryan OAM, who share a passion for Indigenous Australian art. Exhibiting the outstanding work that continues to be produced in this field today, the gallery was created to provide an inspiring new space for locals and visitors to experience the artworks of Australia’s First People.
Echuca - Saturday arriving 11.00 am (90-minute drive from Mitchelton Winery)
Leave the car in our secure car park as you board the Paddlesteamer Canberra for our popular Wharf to Winery Lunch Cruise to Morrisons Riverview Winery & Restaurant.
Departing Echuca you will cruise 30 minutes downstream to Morrisons Winery where you depart your two-course lunch with a complimentary drink. You have the opportunity to taste and buy all the Morrisons wines and don't forget you can relax with complimentary wines on your return paddlesteamer cruise to Echuca which departs at 1.45 pm.
The afternoon is yours to explore the fabulous Port of Echuca precinct with great shopping in High Street featuring Echuca Chocolates, Pacdon Park locally made UK small goods just to mention a few. You can also visit the National Holden Museum or just relax at one of the many cafes and great country pubs.
Echuca - Saturday evening - 5.30pm
Boarding commences for your overnight river journey aboard Paddelsteamer Emmylou. Let PS Emmylou treat you to an unforgettable river cruise along the Murray River for a truly Australian adventure. Experience the magic and majesty of the spectacular scenery of the Murray River and follow the wake of early history when Echuca was Australia's largest inland port. Along the way, you’ll see a great variety of Australian wildlife, including kangaroos and many of the hundreds of bird species that inhabit the river.
PS Emmylou is the only wood-fired paddlesteamer in the world offering regular overnight cruising. Catering for just 18 guests in 9 Brand New Cabins with Private Ensuites you will love your home aboard offering modern comforts. Emmylou is fuelled by redgum logs and is driven by a completely restored 1906 steam engine built to the highest world classification standards. She is now an Australian icon featuring on many Australian Tourism media promotions and is perfectly at home in the historic Port of Echuca, residing with the very few remaining paddlesteamers of the past.
Dining aboard Emmylou is included in your price. Enjoy a delicious 5-course dinner prepared by your onboard Chef. In the mornings you can enjoy a fully cooked or continental breakfast with fresh juices and barista made coffee, the choice is yours. Special Diet? Most dietary requirements can be catered for with advance notice.
Listen to the river birds evening chorus, watch for kangaroos, wombats, egrets and many other species of birds as the stars begin to appear while you enjoy your dinner.
After our dinner guests disembark we cruise 12km along the river passing Morrisons Winery & Restaurant, a great lunch spot before pulling into our mooring for the evening at Layfield Lane.
Here we set up a campfire (subject to weather) under the stars where you can enjoy a good yarn with your fellow passengers. Relax with a beverage from the bar or roast marshmallows before retiring for the evening at your leisure.
Wake to an early morning bush walk or relax over breakfast as we cruise back to Echuca arriving at 9.00am where we reluctantly say farewell with a transfer to your vehicle.
